Pink Polka Dots and Spikes

Sunday, June 30, 2013

Good afternoon readers! I hope y'all have had a wonderful weekend! Mine has been very quiet- I spent most of yesterday hanging out with my family and just hanging out. It was a lovely way to spend a Saturday! XO
Shirt: My shirt is just a classic chambray, similar here, but all around very comfortable and a necessary stable in my wardrobe!
Necklace: This necklace is part of Courtney Kerr's collection on baublebar. You can buy it here and you should check out Courtney's blog here
Shorts: I got my shorts on Friday at the JCrew sale! They are linen and very comfy. They also come in navy and white polka dot which were almost as cute as these
Watch: My watch is my classic Michael Kors. You can get a similar one here

New outfit from JCrew!!

Saturday, June 29, 2013

Good morning and happy Saturday! I hope y'all had a great Friday! Mine was fabulous- I attended a surprise party for one of my best friends! Surprise parties are my favorite; she had no idea and was shocked! Yesterday was also rather hectic shopping for my friends gift and checking out the fabulous sale that J.Crew is having (30% off plus a 15% discount with your student id!). I'm hoping today will be calmer and I can lay back with a good book and a glass of iced tea! XO
Shirt: From J.Crew- I really like it because it is simple, but fitted enough to be flattering
Necklace: My necklace is also from J.Crew, but it was on super sale so is no longer on their website. If you want it, I would check in stores.
Jeans: My jeans are from a local store, but if you wanted to have an all J.Crew outfit, they have a similar pair here. I would recommend buying jeans locally so you can try them on. You never know how jeans are going to fit.
Sandals: My fabulous Sam Edelman sandals!
Watch: old Michael Kors, but similar here
Earrings: I got my earrings at a Kate Spade sale last year, but she has so many cute studs here and most of them are pretty reasonable! Sign up for her email list and you will get great coupons!                                                                                Nail Polish: Sephora by OPI color I'm wired- It goes with everything!

Cheetah print and pearls

Thursday, June 27, 2013

Yay tomorrow is Friday!! I am very excited for a relaxing weekend!

Necklace: This is my new necklace from JCrew! I love it so much :) and I got it on sale!
Dress: My dress is from a little boutique, but it is just a black lace shift dress. Here are a couple of similar options... 1, 2, 3, 4
Shoes: Shoes are Steve Madden and are so comfy! Other stores other than Steve Madden normally sell them for cheaper
Belt: Belt is just a plain skinny black belt. Here is one from Target.

A new blogging book

Wednesday, June 26, 2013

Good morning all! This is my new book that I just ordered written by fellow blogger, Emily Schuman; we aren't even comparable because she is obviously way more popular plus she has a book :) Any ways, her blog is fabulous! If you don't already follow her, check out her blog here right now! You also buy her book, which is basically a more in depth look at some of the things she talks about on her blog. It is very interesting and informative :) You can buy her book on Amazon or at Barnes and Noble! Have a fabulous rest of your day! XO

New lace dress- looking awesome and professional

Tuesday, June 25, 2013

Good evening my awesome readers! How was your day? Did you do anything fun? My day was nice and uneventful- I worked all day and as usual had lunch with Mom :). My outfit is a hodgepodge of old pieces and things from small boutiques. I tried to find similar things for you, but I wasn't extremely successful :( Have a wonderful evening and I'll see you tomorrow! XO

Dress: This one is very similar and I think very cute
Belt: This is the exact same belt, but a different color and mine has a fox for the buckle instead of a bee
Jacket: I love blazers! I wear mine all the time! Mine is old AND from a boutique, but I have heard great things about Zara blazers. This one is from Zara and is on sale if you want it!
Glasses: As always, my glasses are from The View on Elm. And just to answer your question, yes they are real, I need them to see basically anything!

Monday, June 24, 2013

Good afternoon lovelies! I hope your Monday has been as much fun as mine! I had lunch with my mom where she was kind enough to take my picture (go Mom!) and then I saw Star Trek again! It was still amazing. Every time I see it, I am even more amazed by the musical score- it is phenomenal! I am also having dinner at Wolfgang Puck's (Yummy!). Have a great rest of your day!

Sunday, June 23, 2013

Hello! Has your Sunday been peaceful and relaxing? Because mine sure has! I didn't really do much today other than reorganize my jewelry and go on a lovely walk on a local trail (where my picture was taken!). However, I definitely needed a relaxing day :) Plus I wore all of my new jewelry at the same time! I also want to wear new things as soon as I get them! Well enjoy the rest of your Sunday! XO

New jewelry

Saturday, June 22, 2013

So this past week, I made my first purchases at Baublebar! It was so exciting! If you don't already shop for jewelry there, I would definitely recommend it. They have a huge variety and the prices are very reasonable. Plus they have this thing called guest bartenders where different people come in and design their own line of jewelry so the selection is always changing. Here is the link to the necklace and the bracelet. My other bracelet, the bow, is from a brand called Kiel James Patrick. It is a little preppy, but there are some very cute and unique things. Check out their website here. Have a wonderful Saturday! XO

Bringing back the jumpsuit!

Friday, June 21, 2013

George and me working hard at the office :)

Good morning lovely readers! Happy Friday! I'm so excited because my jewelry collection has just grown significantly! I ordered my first pieces from Baublebar (!!) that got here yesterday and I raided my mom's jewelry collection! I might do a post about it all later today! I hope y'all have a fabulous day and happy weekend!
Sunglasses: The View on Elm

Jumpsuit: My jumpsuit is old and from a boutique, but here is a really cute one from Zara. Otherwise, I would look in vintage/ thrift stores
Earrings: Alexis Bittar- they are absolutely stunning. Mine are similar to these, but gold. Definitely check out the website :)
Necklace: I 'borrowed' it from my mom ;)
Cardigan: I am having such a hard time finding this cardigan online even though I just bought it :( but don't fret, I found three other cute ones! Herehere, and here

Dinner and a show

Thursday, June 20, 2013

Along with working yesterday, I also went to this amazing show at a local theater called Tennessee Playboy. It was inspired from The Playboy of the Western World, and was absolutely hilarious! We had such a fabulous time! I hope your hump day was as fun as mine!

Dress: Old from a boutique, but here is a similar one from Madewell
Jacket: old Gap, but they have some other cute jackets and blazers here
Necklace: Once again, but necklace is old (this outfit was very recycled, go me!). However, I found three even better options! One, two, and three

Bag: Kate Spade and really is the perfect purse

Old dress, new way- Neon!

Book Review

Monday, June 17, 2013

Along with cooking over the weekend, I also read this fabulous book called A Vintage Affair by Isabel Wolff. It is about a woman who owns a vintage clothing store. Isabel Wolff weaves together the vintage clothes and the life of this woman as she opens her shop. It is a light, interesting read and a great summer read! You can buy it here! XO

Happy Father's Day!

Cooking adventures!

Ominous Cook Book Stack

So today, I went on a cooking adventure and experimented with THREE new recipes! It was very exciting and fun and all of them turned out so well! Enjoy these recipes and make sure to eat the polenta right off the stove, it doesn't save very well :(

Rosemary Gruyere and Sea Salt Crisps from Smitten Kitchen (great food blog to follow by the way)

1 1/2 cup coarsely grated Gruyere cheese
4 tbsp butter
3/4 cup flour
1 tsp finely minced rosemary- definitely better if fresh
Rosemary Gruyere and Sea Salt Crisps
1/4 tsp sea salt (any kind mixed in, but I used coarse sea salt on top)

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Combine all ingredients in a food processor, pulsing until the mixture resembles coarse, craggy crumbs
  • Dump the mixture out onto a large piece of plastic wrap, gather it together into a ball- this was difficult for me because it would stay together. Just make it as solid as possible and it will all work out I promise!
  • The recipe then said to chill the ball for 30 minutes, but because mine wouldn't stay together it worked better warm. It just depends on how yours works out.
  • I then covered mine completely with plastic wrap and rolled it out with a rolling pin into a loose blob form. It should be about 1/8 of an inch thick
  • Cut the dough into a large grid, dab lightly with water and sprinkle with a pinch of salt.
  • Bake crisps for 10-12 minutes or until the ends are lightly browned (it took mine about 15 minutes, but I wanted them to be kind of crispy)
  • Set the baking pan on a rack to cool then enjoy! I made mine earlier and let them sit out and they were still delicious 3 hours later
Polenta with Fresh Corn from Gwyneth Paltrow- not always a huge fan of hers, but I love this cookbook!

4 cups water
1 cup polenta
coarse salt
kernels from 1 fresh ear of corn- I used one cup of frozen corn and it worked fine
1/2 cup milk
Polenta with corn
1/4 cup cream
black pepper
1 tbsp fresh chives

  • Bring the water to a boil in a small pot
  • Slowly whisk in the polenta and a pinch of salt
  • Turn the heat as low as it can go, put a lid on slightly ajar, and cook for 40 minutes, stirring every 5-10 minutes- Don't worry if your polenta is very vocal. It really freaked me out at first because I've never made polenta before, but it turned out fine!
  • Add the corn, milk, and cream and cook for 5 minutes
  • Season with salt and pepper and serve sprinkled with chives
  • I would recommend serving immediately. I made it early and waited three hours, and it wasn't as good then as it was right off the stove
Chocolate Truffles from Laduree- Obviously I love Laduree because they have macaroons, but this cookbook is awesome even without those!

4 1/2 tbsp butter
Chocolate Truffles
9 oz. dark chocolate (70% coca)
2/3 cup heavy cream
1 1/2 tbsp sugar
1 cup + 3 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder

  • Cut the butter into small pieces. Heat and softer until creamy without allowing it to melt. I just used the microwave, but you could use a double boiler if you prefer. If you use the microwave, beware, it does not take very long! Remove from heat and whisk until homogeneous- kinda blobby like it's been sitting on the counter all day
  • Finely chop chocolate and put in a large bowl. It is important that the chocolate is in very small pieces! I just smashed it with a rolling pin and mine were a little chunky :(
  • In a saucepan, bring the cream and sugar to a boil (doesn't take very long). Pour this hot liquid over the chopped chocolate in 3 parts, making sure to combine well after each addition. The chocolate should be completely melted by the end. Add the softened butter and combine until homogeneous.
  • Pour the ganache into a baking dish. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour to cool completely. Remove from refrigerator and leave to rest at room temperature for 30 minutes- I left it out for 45 :)
  • Transfer ganache to a piping bag fitted with a plain tip, or no tip at all. Pipe small rounds on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Place sheet in the refrigerator for 30 min so the truffles become firm. Put cocoa powder in a small bowl and roll truffles in it to coat them. Store truffles in the refrigerator
  • If your truffles look ugly after you piped them, like mine :), take them out of the refrigerator early and reshape them with your hands then cool again before coating.
I know this is a lot, but I hope you enjoy! XO

Shades of blue and layered necklaces!

Friday, June 14, 2013

Hello lovely readers! It was a beautiful day here for the most part, although I didn't get to enjoy much of it because I was inside all day! I was so proud of this outfit because of the necklace. It is actually two separate necklaces that I layered and I felt so cool! Hope you are having a good start to your weekend!

Basically everything is old, but I found a couple similar and cute things
Shirt: I found three great shirts that are also from Anthropologie that are striped- 1, 2, and
Necklace 1: As you have probably noticed, I am slightly obsessed with Anthro jewelry. Just a word of advice though, it is all really fun and pretty, but sometimes very delicate. So I would recommend going to the store and seeing how it is made before buying it! 1, 2, 3, 4
Necklace 2 (gold one): This was a gift and I haven't found a lot of ways to wear it, but I like it with this

Book Review

Wednesday, June 12, 2013

I just finished Dan Brown's new book, Inferno- it was fabulous! If you don't already know Dan Brown, he wrote Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code, which are now both motion pictures. Anyways, Dan Brown is a talented and enthralling writer and I would definitely recommend this book. Buy it at Barnes and Noble or on Amazon
