Thanksgiving and Black Friday

Saturday, November 30, 2013

Hello! I hope y'all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and Black Friday, mine were lovely. Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday. I don't have a good reason, I just really love Thanksgiving! So the past two days have been awesome. We decided not to go out this year for Black Friday and let me tell you, yesterday was so relaxing. I don't know if I could ever convince myself to go out on Black Friday- masses of people aren't really my think. Anyways, I hope y'all are having a great weekend and be prepared for posts to be a little spottier than usual because I have finals in a week (oh no!). But  I will try and post at least once or twice! XO

A Pop of Red

Sunday, November 24, 2013

Hello! This weekend has been so fun so far! First, on Wednesday I ordered this bag from Saturday.com to take with me to London and it arrived at my house on Friday! I was so excited it got here so fast, plus it is absolutely fabulous! It is going to be perfect for next semester and is going to be a welcome pop of color in my wardrobe. Also on Friday, my sister had a murder mystery birthday party. I know it sounds a little weird, but it was so much. We bought a game that had organized everything so all we had to do was show up and cook dinner. All in all, it was a wonderful evening. I hope y'all have had a fun weekend and did you do anything fun? XO

Slouchy sweaters and Thanksgiving traditions

Wednesday, November 20, 2013

Hello! The countdown to Thanksgiving is on!! Only 8 more days! Thanksgiving is by far my favorite holiday because there are no expectations and you get to enjoy awesome food and family at the same time! I am very excited about Thanksgiving this year because I am going to help my mom make the turkey and all of the rest of the food! I love cooking, but normally on Thanksgiving I am busy studying for finals. But this year, I'm taking a break to help cook. Thanksgiving at our house is always a little crazy because we make enough food to feed an army, but there are only four of us. Also, we have this weird tradition of watching the Godfather. But no matter how weird, I love Thanksgiving with my family. Do y'all have any fun and quirky Thanksgiving traditions? Happy hump day and have a wonderful rest of the week! XO

Vest, Shirt, Glasses, Necklace, Sweater, Jeans, Socks- these socks are from J.Crew and are absolutely amazing! They are so warm and comfy that if feels like you are wearing slippers! Boots

Camels and flannel

Saturday, November 16, 2013

Hello! Today was such a perfect London-esque day that I decided to practice :) So I bundled up and grabbed a cup of tea. It was fabulous and I can't wait to be abroad next semester! I know you can't tell from the picture, but my mug is from Etsy and has Mr. Darcy's proposal from Pride and Prejudice written on it. It is so simple, but cute and I love it! I hope y'all have and a fabulous Saturday and have a wonderful rest of your weekend. XO

Layers of knit

Thursday, November 14, 2013

Hello! Man was it beautiful today and I finally got my hair into a bun! All in all a great day! Even though the sun was out, it was very windy so I just kept piling on layers. I know it is kind of hard to see, but  I am wearing a t-shirt under my leather jacket under my sweater. I was very cozy and felt like  I was wearing a blanket.  I think that a sweater that feels like a blanket is a necessity in everyone's wardrobe because sometimes you want to look cute, but still be cuddly. This has been a very crazy week so I am glad it is almost Friday, plus only twelve days until Thanksgiving break! Yay!  I love Thanksgiving, it is my favorite holiday! Have a wonderful evening and a great weekend. XO

Glasses, Scarf: two different cozy knit options- 1 and 2, Sweater, Leather jacket: I couldn't find the right style and all leather so here are a couple of different combos of the two-  12 and 3, t-shirt, Jeans, Boots

The Importance of Cheetah Print

Wednesday, November 13, 2013

Hello lovely readers! I am so excited about this post because it is all about cheetah print and who doesn't love cheetah print?! Anyways, as I've mentioned, I write a bimonthly article for my school's Her Campus division. My article is normally fashion how to's and you can check out all of my articles here. After finding pictures and thinking about a certain style while writing my article, I am normally inspired to rock that article in the near future. So starting this week, on days that I post the her campus article, I am also going to rock the specific trend I talked about. Now back to cheetah print! My article this week, here, was about how to wear cheetah print and of course, I went out and wore cheetah for the next two days :) Have a great Wednesday and I hope you enjoy the article. Also check out my Her Campus pinterest page here! XO

Flannel and bows

Tuesday, November 12, 2013

Hello! It was so cold today! I snuck this picture in in-between rain storms today- not the prettiest, but good practice for London in the spring! So my Her Campus should go live tomorrow, wohoo, and I have decided that I am going to wear whatever trend I write about in the article, which should be fun. Anyways, I hope y'all are having a wonderful week so far and get excited for the Her Campus post tomorrow! XO

Detailed Sweatshirt and Red Starbucks Cups

Saturday, November 9, 2013

Hello lovely readers! I hope you are enjoying this beautiful fall weather, because I sure am! It is finally chilly and I am loving Starbucks' holiday cups! Fun fact about this outfit, the sweater I am wearing is actually sweatshirt material so I look nice, but feel like I am wearing my pajamas :) Sadly, J.Crew isn't selling the sweatshirt anymore, but I posted two other cute options. Also, my nail polish was a free gift from Sephora and probably my favorite red nail polish ever. It dries super fast and is such a pure red color. I absolutely adore it. Have a wonderful rest of your weekend! XO

Pretzel-Topped Sweet Potatoes

Thursday, November 7, 2013

So lately I have been obsessed with sweet potatoes so my mom and I have been experimenting with different and creative sweet potato recipes. I must say these are absolutely perfect. They are sweet from all of the brown sugar, tart from the cranberries, crunchy from the pecans, and salty from the pretzels. I know it sounds like a weird combo, but these are amazing and you should definitely try them for Thanksgiving! Also check out my mom's new food blog here and her post about these awesome sweet potatoes! XO

2 cups pretzels, broken into pieces
1 cup pecans , chopped
1 cup fresh/frozen cranberries
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup butter, melted
2½ lbs sweet potatoes, cooked
5 oz. evaporated milk
¼ cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Preheat oven to 350ยบ.

In a large bowl, combine the pretzels, pecans, cranberries, brown sugar and 1/2 cup melted butter. Set aside.

In another large bowl, mash cooked sweet potatoes until smooth. (I used about 3-4 sweet potatoes) Add milk, sugar, vanilla and remaining butter. Mix until blended. (If you want your sweet potatoes to be like baby food, then use a mixer to mix these ingredients)

Spoon potato mixture into a greased 2 quart baking dish. Sprinkle with pretzel mixture. Your pretzel mixture will take up about as much room as the sweet potatoes, so make sure you start with a deep enough pan. Bake, uncovered for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are bubbly.

Hello! Happy hump day! Today has been so excited because I started applying for internships for this summer! Hopefully I will find a really awesome one that I can blog about :) Anyways, it has finally started to be consistently cold here so I have started pulling out my sweaters and scarves! This outfit was from Sunday and it was chilly, but absolutely beautiful. It was perfect for brunch and drinking tea gave me the perfect opportunity to take a better picture of my bracelets! I hope y'all are having a wonderful day and here is some fun music to listen to while enjoying your afternoon! XO

Bedazzled Collar

Tuesday, November 5, 2013

Hello! I hope y'all are having a fabulous Tuesday so far! Mine has been very hectic with classes and studying- ew. However, this top just makes me happy that I couldn't resist posting it instead of doing homework! So my mom found this top on sale at J.Crew, which was awesome so go check out the sale area of your J.Crew. That isn't even the coolest part of this shirt though! The collar is detachable so you can wear it with other things! I am so excited, I just want to wear it with everything! Have a wonderful rest of your day and hopefully I will have something fun to post tomorrow too :) XO

Vest: Top: I couldn't find this top on J.Crew's website because it was on super sale- it was 60% off! So either go check out your local J.Crew store or recreate the look with this top and a pullover sweater!

Pecan Brownies

Sunday, November 3, 2013

Hey guys! Here is the recipe for the fabulous brownies Mom and I made yesterday! They are definitely one of my favorite brownie recipes because pecan brownies are my absolute favorite! Try these out and let me know what you think! XO

makes 12 or 16 brownies
9-inch square baking pan

3/4 cup unsalted butter, cut into chunks, plus more for the pan
4 oz unsweetened chocolate, chopped
2 oz bittersweet chocolate, chopped
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
2 cups sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups roughly chopped toasted pecans

  1. preheat oven to 350F. Butter the pan, then line the pan w/ a 9-in-wide strip of parchment paper that fits the bottom of the pan and up 2 of the sides with a little overhang. Butter the paper
  2. melt butter and chocolate in either a double broiler or in the microwave- I did it in the microwave. stir mixture to combine using a rubber or silicone spatula and set aside
  3. put the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl and use a whisk to combine. set the dry ingredients aside
  4. in a large bowl, whisk the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract together until smooth. then add the chocolate0butter mixture and whisk again until smooth. add the dry ingredients to the chocolate-egg mixture, folding with a rubber spatula until well combined. fold in 1 cup of the pecans
  5. scrape the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top with the rubber spatula. sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup pecans evenly over the top.
  6. bake until the top looks dry and a skewer inserted into the brownies comes out mostly clean with a few crumbs clinging and maybe just a small streak of batter, 38 to 40 minutes rotating the pan halfway through the baking time
  7. remove the pan from the oven and cool on a wire rack for about an hour before unfolding. (the brownies will be soft when they are warm but will set up as they cool.)
  8. to unfold the brownies, run a small knife along the 2 sides of the pan that are not lined with parchment paper, then invert onto a large cake cardboard or a parchment-lined baking sheet so the brownies slide out of the pan. invert again onto a large cake cardboard or parchment-lined baking sheet so the brownies are right side up. cut the brownies into 12 bars or 16 bars using a serrated knife

Hats!

Saturday, November 2, 2013

Happy Saturday! Today was a very relaxing and fun day at home. The morning started off very slow as I enjoyed my tea and worked through my new Vogue and my accounting homework. Then, Mom and I checked out J.Crew's sale and made brownies! I will post pictures and the recipe later today or tomorrow. All in all a fabulous day and I am so excited about my hat! I absolutely adore hats, but I have been hesitant to wear them before because they hid all of my hair. But now, that I have hair :), I can rock the hats this winter!! Yay! Check out yesterday's post for my her campus article about how to wear hats and check back tomorrow for brownies :) XO

J.Crew November Style Guide and hats

Friday, November 1, 2013

Hello! I know I have been majorly slacking on blogging lately, but school has been crazy! I'm working on posting more regularly so keep bearing with me, please! So...if you haven't already seen J.Crew's November style guide, which is a new thing they have starting doing, then I would really recommend checking it out here. I thought that this month especially showed off a lot of the new items and how to wear them together! Here are some of my favorite looks. In other news, my Her Campus article this week was about hats! I haven't ever really rocked the hat other than knit hats in winter, but research for this article gave me a lot of good ideas! I will hopefully be rocking a hat, ironically from J.Crew, tomorrow and in the mean time, check out my article! Happy Friday! XO
