H & M Never Goes Out of Style

Sunday, June 28, 2015

I started my blog a little over three years ago. At the time, I had been in the 'blogging world' and reading blogs for about six months and I was feeling confident. I had been accepted and decided on a college and was definitely feeling the ego boost from graduating high school. After reading a blog post, I thought to myself, I'm cute I could write a blog and Lefty Living Life was born. It has definitely been a challenge since at the time, I had no idea what I wanted to blog about (somedays, I still don't know). However, Lefty has also been one of the most amazing gifts and it has become one of the most important aspects of my life.

Lefty started out basically as my online journal and although there are still moments of that, it has become a fashion blog. Fashion has always been an important way for me to express myself. Even in moments where I feel insecure about my body, fashion has always been a way for me to show my personality and overcome those insecurities.

One of my favorite stories about fashion in my life was my first trip to Nordstrom's when I was about five or so. First of all, it was a pretty big moment as Nordstrom's was probably the biggest store I had ever been in and it felt like heaven on Earth. I was along to help my mom pick out a new suit for work. Now my mom has great style, but sometimes she forgets it and just wants to hide in a dull rut. This was one of those times. After picking up probably the fifth black jacket, I decided enough was enough. I grabbed the first pink shirt I could find and told her she had to buy it and she wasn't allowed to buy anything black. And it snowballed from there. I have always loved dressing myself and others because it is such an amazing opportunity to express yourself and with the right outfit, anyone can feel as beautiful and incredible as they truly are.

Lefty has not only been a creative outlet for me, but has also been a way for me to deal with my insecurities and really come out of my shell and become confident in myself and my abilities with fashion and style, but also in every other aspect of my life. Thank you again, my amazing readers, you make this so much fun and I appreciate you so much. Until next time XO

Outfits of a Single Blogger- Pink is King

Tuesday, June 16, 2015

Sometimes there is nothing better than pink; it's just the right amount of pop and fun to make any outfit stand out. I never wore pink until a few years ago and now, I can't get enough. This dress is one of my favorites because style-wise it is very simple. The color speaks for itself. For me, the key to wearing pink is toning it down with darker colors. Normally, I'm using pink to break up the monotony of black and navy in my wardrobe so it's not too difficult. I think with pink, and especially with this outfit, the black makes the pink pop more and the sparkly necklace is the perfect amount of fun. Have opinion about pink? Comment below or email me! XO

Necklace: This is one of my favorite necklaces because it's so versatile. It might be sold out though so here is a very similar one from Bauble Bar, Cardigan: the perfect cardigan, Dress: I found this dress at a boutique in Greenville, SC, but here is a similar one from H and M, Shoes: My first TopShop purchase...I'm in love, Bangles: I love these bangles because they are easy to layer, but also fun to wear by themselves.

Outfits of a Single Blogger

Sunday, June 14, 2015

The biggest challenge for me with this blog has been finding people who are willing to take my picture. This summer, finding a photographer has become an even bigger issue as I live alone and it would be awkward to ask my boss to take my picture on our lunch break. My mom suggested I start this new series of posts because I send her a selfie of my outfit every morning to get her advice and keep her involved in my life. Moral of the story is that there are always obstacles to overcome and the solution might not be perfect, but that doesn't mean it can't still work and be fun. So here is the beginning of a new series- Outfits of a Single Blogger and other adventures of Lefty Living Life this summer. XO

Summer Safari

Saturday, June 6, 2015

I adore hats, but I have also struggled finding something to wear with them, but I think I have finally figured out the answer. You just have to commit. Forget about the hat hair or if you will be the only one in a ten mile radius wearing a hat. Just commit to one. Admit that you look awesome and everyone giving you the side eye is just jealous. Hats are one of those things like patterned jumpsuits or crop tops. Once you've decided you love them and you look great, nothing else matters. So go out this weekend and rock your hats with confidence. XO

Hat: Originally from Anthropologie, but I think I like this one even better because of the wider brim, Sunglasses: The View on Elm, Necklace 1 and 2 (yes it's actually two): I got both of these from J.Crew on sale and was just messing around but found out they are almost exactly the same length! I love wearing them together and it adds a little more fun. I couldn't find the exact ones, but here are three similar ones...1, 2, 3, Top: Similar here but mine has ruffles, Shorts: Similar in safari-esque nature here and similar cut here, Shoes: I love these shoes to spice up an outfit!, Bag: Similar here, Bangles: Chloe and Isabel, Bracelets: Lily and Laura, Watch: Similar here

Book Club: Anonymous Sources

Thursday, June 4, 2015

Finding time within my schedule to read is hard enough and when I do have the time, I want to read something so riveting I can't put it down. Anonymous Sources by Mary Louise Kelly is my most recent find. It has the perfect amount of action and suspense to keep you interested and on the edge of your seat. Kelly also includes some moments of humor and romance that really lighten up the story and create that emotional connection with the characters that I always crave when reading fiction. I love the strong female heroine, and Kelly's background as a political writer and correspondent give this story a subtle credibility that keeps it captivating and believable. If you are looking for your next book, this would be at the top of my list! XO

A simple tshirt and shorts

Tuesday, June 2, 2015

My first couple of days here in Atlanta have been amazing and I am so excited for what this summer has in store for me. It has been a little rainy and overcast here, but hopefully the weather will perk up so I can do some exploring this weekend. I can't wait to wander around and really get to know this city. As always, if you have any recommendations for me while I'm here in Atlanta, I would love to hear them! XO

Glasses: The View on Elm, Tshirt: I love this twist on the classic striped tee, Necklace: Stella and Dot, Shorts: Maybe the most comfortable pair of shorts I have ever worn. Thank you J.Crew! Belt: Sometimes a belt is all you need to make an outfit, Shoes: such a comfortable and versatile flat from Aerin, Gold Sparkly Bangles: Chloe and Isabel- my new go-to for jewelry, Watch: similar here from Michel Kors, Gold Bangles: Chloe and Isabel, Orange Bangle: From this great boutique in Greenville, SC. I love that it is an elephant!
