2016 VMAs

Tuesday, August 30, 2016

As usual, I wasn't able to actually watch the VMA's Sunday (because I went to sleep at 8pm officially making me an old person), but I loved catching up on some of the looks yesterday morning. Here were some of my favorite ones! I would love to hear what y'all thought about the VMA red carpet too so make sure to comment below XO

The only person who can outshine Beyonce? Her daughter Blue Ivy

Beyonce is always someone to keep an eye on at the red carpet. She knows what she is doing and always looks incredible. Sunday night was no exception, but the real story was how she was upstaged by Blue Ivy. It's no surprise that Beyonce's child is stylish beyond belief, but what an awesome red carpet debut with a full tulle skirt and matching sneakers!

How many times is this girl going to make a come back?!

I love Britney just as much as the next 90s baby, but how many times is she going to make a comeback?! It's crazy, and also very impressive. Britney has definitely spent enough time on the red carpet to know what works and what doesn't and she proved that Sunday in this LBD that is both revealing and classic and incredibly flattering. We are impressed Britney.

Colored mini dress and loose hair

I have always been a Hailee Steinfeld fan and Sunday night was no exception. I love the short, patterned mini dress that is flattering, but not overly revealing.

high fashion on the VMA red carpet

I have never met a cape I didn't like and Holland looked in credible in this cape/jumpsuit ensemble. I love the idea of bringing old world glamour to the red carpet in this chic monotone outfit. I couldn't be more impressed.

red jumpsuit

Tinashe had a different take on the jumpsuit with this modern, menswear inspired red jumpsuit. She looked incredible and I love the idea of all of that flowing fabric coming together in this effortless outfit.

Women's Gymnastic team VMA

I love that the US Women's Gymnastic team came to the VMAs. They all looked beautiful and it was fun to see their personal styles after seeing them wear a uniform for the past month. So proud of these girls and all they accomplished at the Olympics this year!

Top 10

Saturday, August 27, 2016

Hello all! This week's Top 10 is centered around things I have been reading, watching, listening to, etc. There are a lot of words...I'm just warning you now :) So enjoy and I would love to hear what y'all think or hear about things you've been up to! XO

1. Ocean's Eleven is one of my favorite movies of all time and they just announced a new all-women spin-off. To say I'm excited would be an understatement.

2. I absolutely love song mash-ups for some reason and this one with the top hits of 2015 has been stuck in my head all week!

3. It is probably obvious by now that I love J.Crew and their new fall style guide has had me craving fall clothes all week. Plus, they have started reintroducing leopard into the collection, which I couldn't be more excited about! Katie Armour Taylor had a great overview of the fall style guide and here are some of my favorite looks.
Rolled up trench sleeves with button-down and cheetah loafers? New life aesthetic.

So clean and classy...I'll take three!

I love all of the movement plus these shoes are incredible.

4. You might not know this about me, but I love Game of Thrones...like unhealthy obsession levels of love. And their new trailer for the next season has me on the edge of my seat already! I can't wait for it to come back! Any good suggestions for what to watch while I wait?

5. If you didn't already know, early this year, Christian Louboutin redefined nude with his collection of nude shoes to match a variety of skin tones. I love the idea of these and it is about time we reconsidered what nude means.

6.  In other fashion news, I just learned about the horseshoe stamp Birkin bag...the 1% of the 1%. A super interesting read from Christie's

7. Speaking of Christie's, this summer was a record breaking year for them in Renaissance/ Baroque art (my specialty). If you are interested, I would check out this article for the coverage of an event that might not happen again in our lifetimes!

8. For something a little more light, watch my new favorite James Corden carpool karaoke with Michelle Obama. I couldn't stop laughing and Michelle is magical.

9. My other favorite thing to watch right now? The Great British Bake-Off. It is quintessentially British, funny, inspiring, and a cooking show only about baked goods. Basically everything I love and it's on Netflix!

10. Finally, my best friend and I started a book club. Basically we live very far a part so we are reading the same book and talking about it in our weekly phone calls. First of all, I am terrible at bookclub because I never finish the reading (Sorry Kate!!!), but our book has been really interesting so far. It is called Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari. I have always loved Aziz, but the book is very well written and I am learning so much that I didn't know about dating in the modern world. Any suggestions for our next book?

Black and White Power Dress

Monday, August 22, 2016

Hello all! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Today we are going to be talking a little about confidence and what that has to do with what I wear. I think everyone has experienced self-doubt or insecurities about their appearance at one point or another. I certainly have a lot over the years and it is something that I deal with everyday. But the way I deal with it is through what I wear. My goal in the morning is not to have the cutest or trendiest outfit, it is to feel awesome in whatever I am wearing. Whether it is jeans and a t-shirt or a dress and heels, if I feel good about myself in my outfit then I have succeeded that day.
Now some outfits make you feel good and other outfits make you feel like you can take over the world without even trying. I call those outfits my power outfits because they make me feel powerful and strong. This dress is one of those power outfits. Every time I put it on, I feel incredible and beautiful, but also like I can handle anything life has to throw at me.
I know it's a little cheesy, but feeling good in your clothes is so important so make sure that you feel incredible in whatever you are wearing. XO

Mint and Navy

Saturday, August 20, 2016

Hello all! My first week of work is complete! It has been a very busy, but fun week and it has been nice to not have the pressure of looking for a job hanging over my head. The other nice thing is I get to dress up a little bit everyday and I am already having fun experimenting with my outfits.
Navy has always been a favorite of mine because it doesn't have that harshness that comes with wearing a lot of black in the summer. Navy is also great because it is so easy to pair with bright colors. I know the whole mint obsession was a couple of years ago, but I still love the pop it can add to an outfit. This cardigan is perfect for that because it just has that little bright seam, which is subtle, but still makes an outfit interesting. I hope y'all are having a wonderful weekend so far and I would love to hear any good ideas you have for work outfits! XO

Ruffles and Pearls

Friday, August 19, 2016

Hello all! I love this outfit because there are some many interesting details. First of all, the shirt isn't just a button-up, but also has ruffles which adds such an interesting and feminine touch to an otherwise plan button-down. Second of all, I love this purse because it snaps open and has a compartment that perfectly fits a glasses or sunglass case! Finally, I love these shoes. They are brand new and I am so excited about them. You so rarely see monk straps on women shoes and I was so excited to see them on these. I can't wait to wear them this fall and winter! XO

T-Shirts and Pink

Tuesday, August 16, 2016

This outfit might be one of my new all-time favorites because it has all of my favorite elements: my NYT t-shirt, sparkles, pink, and it's nice and girly. This t-shirt was kind of an impulse purchase three years ago and it has been one of my go-tos since then! Obviously for any outfit to be my favorite, there need to be sparkles, lots of sparkles, and this necklace is perfect for that. This skirt is a new addition to my wardrobe, but it's pink so obviously I love it and I am probably going to be wearing it a lot.
I think this outfit might also be lucky not only because it has so many of my favorite outfit elements, but also because I received my job offer wearing this outfit! So I will definitely be wearing this whenever I need a little extra luck in the future! XO

Ruffles and Leather

Monday, August 15, 2016

Today was my first real day of work and it kind of felt like the first day of school all over again. Whenever I am nervous about a situation or going into a new situation, I always buy a new outfit or at least a new piece so my outfit can be new and exciting. That always gives me the confidence to deal with whatever situation I am going into.
I am not going to lie, for some reason I was really nervous going into my job today for some reason. I already knew all of the people and was comfortable there, but sometimes you can't control my nerves.
However, the one thing that made today easier was feeling good about my new outfit. You might recognize this skirt because I have the same one in black. The black one has been such a great staple for me, but it is a little big right now. So when I saw that J.Crew came back with it this summer in burgundy, I couldn't help myself! Thank you J.Crew! XO

Ruffles and International Left-Handers Day

Saturday, August 13, 2016

Hello all! Today is one of my favorite days of the year even though it always seems to sneak up on me. Today is International Left-Handers Day! Out of everyone, only 10% of the world population is left-handed and I am one of them. I have always identified very strongly as a left-handed person and since creating this blog, being left-handed has become even more important to how I identify myself. Next year, I am thinking I am going to throw a left-handers day party so the day can't sneak up on. Plus it seems like the perfect excuse to throw a party! Any ideas for what we should do? Also, if you are a lefty or have any lefty friends/ relatives, I would love to hear about it in the comments below XO

One LBD, two ways

Friday, August 12, 2016

I think we can all agree that I wear a lot of statement pieces, and for some, it can be very difficult to integrate those pieces into their everyday wardrobe. But for me, statement pieces are my comfort zone. Give me a big bold necklace and mixed patterns any day over a plain black dress. For some reason I always struggle with simpler basics. So, whenever I do have a simpler piece, I try and make distinct outfits with it using my accessories.
I really love this dress because it is incredibly comfortable and is made of thicker fabric so even though it's short, I don't get as cold when wearing it. The button details are great, but have been very difficult for me because it is almost impossible to wear a necklace that won't interfere with the buttons! My worst nightmare! Accessory-wise, necklace is already out because of the buttons. I also wouldn't wear heels with it because it is already a little short for me. So of course, I first decided to go with statement earrings and shoes. Cheetah is such an easy statement piece to wear because it is made up of neutral colors so it goes with almost everything. Outfit one, check!
Outfit two randomly came together as I was reading an article about Olivia Palermo. We will talk about her more here in the future, but she is one my style icons and somehow always finds a way to look fabulous wearing flats. The article suggested wearing a button-down under a black dress with flats. I was a little skeptical because normally wearing a button-down with flats makes my outfit a little more masculine than I would like. But then I remembered this dress and it seemed perfect for this experiment! And it totally was! Hello preppy school girl uniform with a twist! I'm not going to lie, this might be my new aesthetic for fall :)
I would love to hear y'all's opinions about these two outfits and if you have any more ideas about how to wear this dress! XO

P.S. isn't my new camera strap awesome?! Natalie gave it to me! Thanks Natalie :)

70s Jumpsuit

Tuesday, August 9, 2016

Jumpsuits have always been a love of mine and this brightly geometric, billowing 70s silhouette is no exception. I love jumpsuits not only because they are easy to wear and super comfortable, but also because they are a statement piece all in themselves. Not very many people are willing to wear a jumpsuit so wearing one at all sets you apart. However, they are also great to wear with fun jewelry, chunky heels, or a sweater. I love the versatility a jumpsuit allows and the fun outfits you can create wearing one.
For me, the hardest part about wearing a jumpsuit is finding shoes to wear with it so the pant legs don't drag against the ground. These heels were the perfect addition to the outfit today because they also have a 70s vibe which fit so well with the jumpsuit. With all of the pattern, I didn't need a chunky necklace so this pearl strand was perfect. The hat was the perfect final addition to give this look a fun, summer vibe. XO

Pink with Blue Stripes

Monday, August 8, 2016

Pink and blue are one of my favorite color combinations. One is feminine and girly, while the other is typically associated with the sky or boys. However, together they play off each other so well. With the new additions of this necklace and these shoes to my wardrobe, I have been wearing even more pink than usual and blue is always my go to.
When I first put on this  outfit, my mom questioned my combination of light blue, navy, and black. However, blue and black is another one of my favorite combinations. For me, the key to mixing colors is to stop putting restrictions on myself. Sure it is a classic style rule not to mix black and navy, but rules are meant to be broken and they just looks so good together! XO

Tweed and Red

Sunday, August 7, 2016

My tweed skirt is not the only tweed I've been wearing lately. This shirt has also become a stable in my work wardrobe. It is so easy to wear with a skirt or pants and gives me that extra layer of warmth I always need when I am in air conditioning.
Also, a little about my necklace because I got so many comments on it today. It is actually two long strands that I pinned together with a brooch. A simple long strand necklace doesn't have a lot of room in my wardrobe because it is always a little simple for me. However, the brooch gives it that extra punch I am always looking for. A definite trick to try if you are looking to refresh some of your jewelry! XO
