Hello all! Happy Saturday and what a beautiful Saturday it is turning out to be! Even though I work on the weekends, I always look forward to Saturday morning because I get to sleep in a little and enjoy some productive downtime in the morning before I head off to work. Today, I've been thinking a lot about ruffles. I adore ruffles because they are a fun, girly detail that fits perfectly into my style aesthetic. However, they aren't the easiest thing to integrate into your wardrobe or even to start wearing in general. Here are some tricks I've discovered a long the way for adding ruffles into your wardrobe in a girly, but still adaptable to your style way.

The easiest way to start with ruffles is to keep the ruffle small and unassuming and keep the rest of your outfit unassuming. This black t-shirt, for example, is the perfect introduction to ruffles. There is just a small detail on the bottom, but it doesn't overtake the entire outfit. Because the t-shirt is black, your outfit is not automatically girly so you can make it as girly or not as you want.

Finding a top with only a small amount of ruffle detail might be challenging. But, if you find one with ruffles on the top, you can use your hair or a cardigan to up-play or down-play the ruffles depending on your mood. Also, if the piece is patterned, this tends to draw attention away from the ruffles because there is other stuff happening that you can focus on.

A ruffle does not have to be big to pack a punch. Some small ruffles at your neckline feels classic and you can easily amplify the impact by drawing attention to it with a big necklace. For ultimate impact, put your hair up. There is no where for the ruffles to hide and it will make your neck look longer.

If you love ruffles, but want to down-play the girly aspect, toughen up the look with bold, neutral accessories. Stay away from anything pastel or neon and stick to a black, brown, and gray color palette. Add accessories that speak towards a completely different style like a hat and motorcycle boots. Ruffles can be whatever you make them so don't feel pinned into the girly corner if that's not you.

If you are really ready to take it to the next level, go for something one-shouldered or off-the-shoulder. This allows for maximum impact of the ruffles and is the perfect way to wear this fabulous summer trend.

Don't forget that with this, like with anything else, stay true to your own style and personality. It's always important to branch out, but don't wear things that make your feel like you're trying too hard. You always want to be comfortable in your own skin because that is when you will look the most amazing! Until next time, XO
