How to Wear...Statement Earrings

2017, summer, how to wear, statement earrings, J.Crew, OOTD,

Hello all! I hope your weekend has been fun so far. Mine has busy, but good, just how I like it. For this week's How to Wear series, we are going to be talking about my favorite way to accessorize currently- statement earrings.

For a long time, I didn't really wear earrings. With my short hair, earrings of any kind were almost over-powering with an outfit and at that time, I wasn't really accessorizing much. But now, obviously I love to accessorize and walk that line between just the right amount and too much jewelry.

In my opinion, statement earrings are one of the easiest ways to accessorize because if you get nervous about your commitment, you can always let your hair down and cover them partially. Sometimes, this look is even the best option because you just get a tease of the jewelry until you turn and the light catches your sparkles.

With statement earrings, typically I like to wear my hair up or pulled back to really show them off. I know for a lot of people, that can be a scary commitment, so here are ideas for wearing them that might make it a little easier for you!

If you are nervous about this trend at all, start off simple. Keep your hair down or slightly pulled back so you have a buffer. Then, keep your outfit pretty simple and neutral so you aren't dealing with patterns and mixing colors on top of statement earrings. Always make sure to try on statement earrings before you buy them. These, for example, are super light so easy to wear all day, but some can be deceptively heavy and will hurt your ears after a while.

Once you feel comfortable here, it is easy to progress to a ponytail or bun that shows off your earrings completely. I love wearing huge earrings like this and an otherwise neutral outfit. Then, your earrings really do become the statement. Putting your hair up with bold earrings is also a great way to dress up a t-shirt or an otherwise more casual outfit.

For this summer, my favorite way to wear statement earrings is with an off-the-shoulder top. It can be very difficult to pair a necklace with this kind of top, but big earrings are the perfect combination. They are so easy to show-off with no collar to interfere and are a great way to show off and emphasize your shoulders this summer. More statement earring tips will probably be coming out as the summer progresses, but always feel free to comment or email me if you need advise or have ideas! Until next time, XO
