As we are finally transitioning into fall weather wise, the next week or so of blog posts are going to be all about how to transition clothes into fall and how I am experimenting with my fall wardrobe this year. One of my favorite things to do with my wardrobe is to take a piece that easily fits into one category and make it work for something else. For example, a tulle skirt with flowers fits pretty squarely into my summer/ evening out wardrobe. But, I love this skirt so much and I wanted to find a way to make it work for fall.
With that goal in mind, I had two main challenges...dress down the skirt so it would work for everyday and make it temperature appropriate for fall. Whenever I am trying to dress something down, I always gravitate towards cute tees and tennis shoes. Tennis shoes didn't look cute with this skirt and I wanted to try something a little different anyways. This polka dot tee fit the bill perfectly because it toned down the skirt and added another awesome pattern. Pattern mixing is fabulous and I love doing it in unexpected ways like polka dots and floral.
The shoes were easy for this look. Without heels, I felt a little dumpy and the coral from the wedges picked up a coral flower in the skirt. Easy peasy. With that all done, I still needed to make the look warmer for fall and it needed to be toned down a little too. This sweater blazer was just the thing. First of all, I've been dying to wear it for weeks. It added the perfect mix of fall with the thicker material and the deep burgundy color. Secondly, because it's a little slouchy it toned down the outfit so I felt more comfortable for work.
Challenging yourself like this is always great because it expands your wardrobe so much. It can definitely be a challenge, but set yourself clear goals and start off easy. A black tank with the sweater would have worked just as well if you aren't ready to transition something to fall and mix patterns. Until next time, XO
